Prospectives students sample Case campus

Hundreds of prospective students and their families visited the Case campus last weekend to see the university up close and to get a feel for what it's like to be a student in Cleveland.

Saturday Sampler is the weekend version of "Experience Case," the on-campus visit program for admitted students and their families organized by the Office of Undergraduate Admission.

Twelve "Experience Case" days are scheduled for the spring; 11 of these special visit days are scheduled for Fridays and Mondays, and Saturday Sampler is the one day that students can come to Case during the weekend.

Although Saturday Sampler refers to the entire day's activities, current students identify the term with the mini Student Activities Fair that takes place in the Veale Center. Student organizations come to Veale for a few hours to showcase their recent awards, pictures of events, and materials, as well as to share first-hand information as a member of the organization.

Freshmen Stephanie Ash and Freshman Julie Chapman, manning the Mock Trial booth for the day, said that they were at Saturday Sampler to "recruit new members among a strong freshman class."

"We have a lot of potential, and we want to build on our already strong teams," Ash said. "We're hoping to expand to three teams next year, and we'll need more members to make that happen. We want to be the next Miami [of Ohio], Princeton, or Yale."

Sean Koenig, a tour guide and junior history major, was on hand to answer questions for families.

"Two hundred and ninety-one families signed up for this event, and although some of them didn't come because of the weather, I would say that this was one of the biggest and most successful Admission events ever," Koenig said.

He also said that the weekend's events were tied into the selection process for the Adelbert-Squire and Smith-Treuhaft full-tuition scholarship program and the Pre-Professional Scholar Program in law, medicine, dentistry, and social work.
