Reading days and exams changed for future fall semesters

Changes in the schedule for reading days and Final Exam days will affect the fall semesters and will be implemented starting the Fall 2005 semester. The decision to revise the schedule was recently reached by the Faculty Senate.

Originally, the reading days for the Fall semester consisted of two consecutive days positioned between the end of classes and the beginning of Finals. Under the new schedule, there will be one reading day on Monday of the first exam week and one reading day on Friday of the first exam week. This model was first proposed last spring by the Undergraduate Student Government Academic Affairs committee.

The first Reading Day for Fall 2005 will be Monday, December 12 and Friday, December 16.

The change in the Reading Days schedule was due to wishes of the majority of students and faculty who participated in an online survey sponsored by the USG. "The decision to change the dates was caused by the concerns from students and faculty. There were also some problems previously experienced with scheduling," Assistant to the Registrar, Linda Wolf said.

Though the dates of the Fall Reading Days were changed, the Reading Days and Final Exam days for the spring semesters remain unchanged.

The full schedule can be found in the Five Year Academic Calendar at, http://www.case.edu/provost/registrar/calendars/5year.html.
