Gray shines at UAA tennis championships in Boston

The men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Brandeis University in Boston, Mass. this past weekend for the UAA championships. The women finished last out of eight teams, but the men were able to win one match to finish sixth.

For the tournament, the women's team lost to second-seeded Washington University 9-0 on Friday. In two matches on Saturday, the Lady Spartans fell 8-1 and 7-1 to Brandeis and the University of Rochester, respectively. The only two victories of the weekend were posted by number six singles player Lauren Gray. She beat her Brandeis opponent 6-3, 6-2 and her Rochester counterpart 6-1, 6-2. Gray was impressed with Case's play for the weekend, regardless of the outcome.

"Everyone picked up their game for the weekend as we were playing some very good teams," Gray said. "We just couldn't pull through."

The men started out on Friday against University of Rochester, the number three seed. Rochester was too much for the Spartans, winning 7-0. On Saturday, Case squeaked by New York University 4-3 for its only win of the weekend. After some rest the team played again on Saturday, losing to Brandeis, the host team, 5-2. Number two singles player Ben Sinder had an impressive weekend, finishing the tournament 2-1 in singles and 1-2 in doubles. The sophomore won both of his singles matches in two sets.

The women played on Wednesday against Walsh, while the men play again tomorrow at Mercyhurst. The women will also be traveling to Mercyhurst. Mercyhurst is the last match of the season for both teams.
