CMA to showcase new exhibits
The typical Case student's schedule is often far from eclectic. Students rarely have time to take classes outside of their major(s). Aside from the few general education requirements, science and engineering students' academic diet is often lacking a wholesome liberal arts education. Fortunately for these students, the Cleveland Museum of Art provides the Case community the opportunity to supplement their studies and for many it is shorter walking distance than to their classes.
This semester, the museum is currently featuring an exhibit entitled "The NEO Show." The display of artwork is unique in that it is defined by the artists themselves - "NEO" indicative of "Northeastern Ohio." The exhibit, featuring a diverse display of work done by this region's artists, ends Sunday.
A new exhibit arriving Oct. 16 will highlight works of art reflective of the Arts and Crafts Movement in Europe and America that took place between 1880 and 1920. The movement is said to have, "transformed not only how objects looked but also how people looked at objects." The exhibit is not confined to paintings, but boasts other objects such as furniture and metalwork by renowned designers such as William Morris and Frank Lloyd Wright.
Although your classes this semester may be deficient in variety, you can be assured these exhibits will remedy that problem by celebrating these artists' appreciation for modernity and willingness to challenge conventional design.
