"Binary Code" Baker Walk now under construction
A new entrance to the Case Quad is currently under construction on the corner of Adelbert and Euclid where the Baker building once stood. As a part of the university's master plan, Baker Walk connects students from Euclid to the quad.
The design for the new Baker Walk is based on a concept titled "binary code" developed by Thomas Shultz, an assistant professor of accountancy in the university's Weatherhead School of Management. Zeros and ones (binary code) will be formed on the Baker Walk by arranging different shades of paving stones. Shultz's binary walk was chosen out of the 65 entries the University received from faculty, staff, and students.
Work on the walkway began April 10 with the first phase of construction on the Baker site. Phase II of construction, creating the Adelbert Hall East entry, commenced after May 20. Campus planning and development hopes to have all work completed by Sept. 31.
