Taste of Asia features dishes from the East
Case's Asian American Alliance (AAA), in collaboration with the Taiwanese American Student Association (TASA), the Korean Student Association (KSA), the Indian Student Association (ISA), and the Case Western Reserve University Malaysian Students As-sociation (CAMAR), will be hosting its largest fall event, Taste of Asia, tonight at 7 p.m. in Thwing Ballroom.
Taste of Asia is an annual cultural dinner though it was previously known as Stir-Fry. Originally, the event only featured Chinese dishes, but this year, the dinner will provide various Asian cuisines, such as Korean, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, and Malaysian dishes from area restaurants including Seoul Hot Pot, Thai Orchid, and Bo Long, among others.
Aside from a variety of authentic dishes, this year's event will also provide live entertainment. "What is really different this year is we are featuring a professional drum group, Ichi Daiko," AAA President Peter Lin said.
Ichi Daiko is a Japanese drumming group and will perform after dinner. "The audience will have the opportunity to experience the beats from the East, while tasting the finest foods of Asia," Lin said.
Tickets for the event are $5 for undergraduate students and $7 for graduate students and general admission. Lin anticipates the dinner will sell out of all 300 available tickets.
AAA, one of the largest undergraduate organizations, is a cultural and social club promot-ing aware-ness of Asian Pacific cult-ure.
"Our goal is to promote Asian aware-ness as a whole, on this campus. The purpose of Taste of Asia is not only to give our campus a taste of foods from various Asian cultures, but also bring the entire campus together for a night of fun," AAA secretary Raymond Choi said.
Other AAA events this fall included movie nights, ice skating, and a Make-Your-Own California Roll night. The org-anization's annual cultural show will take place on Feb. 18, 2006.
The organization's annual fall dinner began two years ago as a fundraising event for AAA. At this year's Taste of Asia, club members will be collecting donations for the South Asian earthquake relief.
