Formal recruitment begins tomorrow
Formal recruitment for sororities has just begun for the spring semester. Recruitment will be held this weekend and next in Thwing, and all freshmen, sophomore, and junior women are eligible and welcome to participate.
During the recruitment process, each of Case's six sororities hosts parties for a set amount of time during each of the four recruitment days.
After the first weekend of parties, the sorority women and potential new members make lists that narrow down who they are interested in.
As recruitment continues the following weekend, potential new members will attend fewer parties, all the while narrowing the list of sororities they would like to join by the end of the second weekend. The following Monday, Feb. 6, final bids will be extended by the sororities.
"We [Greek Life] try to make sure that every woman going through recruitment is having the best time possible and at the end, they are happy with their choice. We are looking out for that woman's best interest," Christine Chambers, the Panhellenic Council VP of Membership, said.
To prepare for recruitment, sorority women have been planning parties, rehearsing the skits that they will perform, organizing the philanthropy events that each chapter will host during the second party, and planning the food and decorations.
Though the population of the freshman class is a record breaking number, the current number of women registered for recruitment is at 120.
The current registration number is consistent with numbers from previous years, according to Chambers.
"I strongly encourage every woman to go through formal recruitment because it is a great way to meet new people, even if you don't end up choosing to join a sorority. Recruitment was one of my best experiences in college and I am glad I went through it," Chambers said.
