Ani DiFranco's Carnegie Hall rife with emotion
Ani DiFranco's latest live release showcases many of the qualities fans adore.

Like so many people with fierce personalities, Ani DiFranco is a love-her-or-hate-her kind of woman. Known throughout the music world for her unique punky-jazz-folk stylings, ferociously loyal fanbase, and frenetic work pace, DiFranco has released an average of one album a year for the last sixteen years. In 2004, DiFranco and her self-made label, Righteous Babe Records, began releasing a series of "Official Bootlegs" of live shows spanning her entire career. While most of us are too young to have experienced the true essence of the 1980s, certain key words – leg warmers, stone-washed jeans, spandex, scrunchies, blue eye shadow, and Aquanet, lots of Aquanet – can always conjure up visions of our country's favorite decade. Last weekend, the Footlighters had all of that and more in their phenomenal production of Footloose. The troupe packed Thwing's Excelsior Ballroom, bringing in 855 people, and breaking the troupe's attendance record since they began in 1998.[read more]

Seeds takes over in Sunday doubleheader against Westminster
Pitcher Amanda Bell had an outstanding performance in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against Westminster, throwing a complete game victory while also hitting a three-run homer.

The softball team's doubleheader against Westminster last Sunday became the Lauren Seeds show. The sophomore center fielder went 6-for-8 on the day, hitting a home run in each game of the doubleheader. She also scored four of her team's 10 runs as the Lady Spartans won both games, 5-1 and 5-4, in the Sunday sweep. "She was crazy," said coach Jennie Amodio. "She was on that day. She wasn't really sure what happened, and I told her 'figure it out and keep doing it.[read more]
