Falling for University Circle last weekend

University Circle describes the weekend of Fall for the Circle as "three days of music, arts, performances, changing leaves and scarecrows – all in University Circle." Fall for the Circle, a yearly event, took place from Oct. 14 to Oct. 16.

A signature feature of Fall for the Circle is the army of scarecrows that begin popping up all over University Circle. Robin Van Lear, Artistic Director of Community Arts at the Cleveland Museum of Art, designs each of the 10-foot scarecrow creations. The scarecrows are meant to be unique. According to University Circle representatives, "Starting Oct. 1, more than three-dozen creative and whimsical scarecrows – or should we say "culture crows" – will be playing hide and seek throughout University Circle."

Free events took place in Wade Oval on Friday and Saturday from 11a.m. - 4 p.m. The activities included storytelling, live animal demonstrations, century-old toy displays, and an appearance by Radio Disney Street Team. Several Circle restaurants also made appearances, selling a variety of food. The event is sponsored by National City Bank and Jo-Ann Stores.

Outside of Wade Oval, Fall for the Circle promoted many events around University Circle – some free and some with a ticket price. The Case Homecoming Parade and the Case Choral Showcase at Harkness Chapel both earned a spot on the listing of events in the Fall for the Circle brochure.

Cinematheque film showings, an Archaeology Day from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, wagon rides at the Botanical Gardens, and Cleveland Orchestra performances are some Fall for the Circle events that required tickets.

While the events at Wade Oval ended on Saturday, the weekend continued through Sunday with more activities from the Cleveland Botanical Gardens, the Cleveland Institute of Art, the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and the Cleveland Museum of Art.

The weekend provided an opportunity for Cleveland residents to appreciate all that University Circle has to offer. It was a weekend filled with events headed by the most prominent cultural and educational facilities in the city. Fall for the Circle allowed its guests to choose their activities based on time, interests, and affordability. The variety allowed guests to fully explore University Circle and tailor the experience to their own tastes.
