Greek life rewarding in numerous ways
If you attended the Fall Leadership Conference, you would have heard a great speaker, Michael Poll, mention the three top things that employees look for in a candidate:
1.) Attitude
2.) Communication Skills
3.) Experience
Greek life can provide you with all the right experiences to develop these.
This past summer, I attended the Monster.com leadership conference in Baltimore, Md. I know that the opportunities for leadership that Greek Life has offered me played a major role in setting me apart from the 30,000 other applicants and helped me earn one of the 3000 spots. At this conference, I was able to network and gain a new view of diversity and leadership. It was unlike anything I have ever attended or have had a chance to be a part of. I was truly among the best of the best and was very humbled by it.
Each day in the Greek community I see the same energy and enthusiasm as I did during this conference. Each time I happen to be at a Greek event where some outstanding member is recognized for his or her achievements, I experience the same humbled feeling. This, however, has only driven me forward to become the best that I can be, and as cliché as this sounds, Greek Life has instilled that in me. Greek Life has provided me with the confidence and ability to step outside my box. Through my experiences, I have also gained friends that will last me a lifetime.
Leadership positions within Greek Life have given me opportunities to network, develop, and explore; service experiences have become some of the most rewarding activities of my college life. I have also gained a sense of pride in myself, my sisters, my classmates, and my school. This system has given me more than I ever could have imagined. I don't know that I can define one single thing that Greek Life has helped me to develop because, in all honesty, it has helped me develop everything.
