Obvious jokes about Cleveland weather aside, tonight's definitely a night for staying warm. To that end, check out Film Society's screening of Ice Age 2: The Meltdown tonight at Strosacker; this sequel to the popular animated saga Ice Age follows a motley crew of endangered animals as they attempt to escape the devastating effects of global warming. No, I know what you're thinking; this is not the one with Al Gore. Time: 7, 9, and 11 p.m. Cost: $3. Location: Strosacker Auditorium. Info: films.case.edu

Saturday, Jan. 27

Tonight, check out some of the best films produced by local Cleveland talent at Film Society's Local Filmmaker's Night; check out films.case.edu for the lineup. Time: 7 p.m. Cost: $3. Location: Strosacker Auditorium. Info: films.case.edu

Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Kevin Devine hits the Grog Shop tonight, with the Goddamn Band, Jennifer O'Connor, Pablo, and His Hideous Heart. Time: 6 p.m. Cost: $8 advance, $10 day of show. Location: the Grog Shop. Info: www.grogshop.gs

The Tony-winning musical The Light in the Piazza makes its final appearance on the Palace Theatre stage tonight. Lovers of sweeping love stories (and their captive significant others) must take the opportunity to see the stage adaptation of Elizabeth Spencer's novel about romantic and familial love set in Italy; because who doesn't love to spend hours watching people randomly burst into song and dance? Sunday, Jan. 28

Movie awards season has kicked into high gear; why not shelter yourself in the comfort of a classic film? Alfred Hitchcock's revered thriller, Vertigo, which follows a police detective who falls in love with a mysterious woman, plays at the Cinematheque today, so go get your fix of good film. Time: 3 p.m. Cost: $5-$8. Location: Cleveland Cinematheque, 11141 East Blvd. Info: www.cia.edu/cinematheque

Monday, Jan. 29

In my book, there's really not much that can be wrong with a band whose name means "playful sex" in Japanese. Dreamy-pop band Asobi Seksu has met with rave reviews from the New York Times, mtvU, Nylon, and many other critical outlets; they hit the Grog Shop tonight with JJ Magazine and Bears. Time: 9 p.m. Cost: $7. Location: the Grog Shop. Info: www.grogshop.gs

Tuesday, Jan. 30

Reggae singer Pato Banton's résumé includes gigs with Peter Gabriel, the English Beat, and Sting. He even scored a college radio hit with a cover of the Police's "Spirits in the Material World" in the early '90s. Seven years ago, he retreated from recording and touring to form a music program for disadvantaged kids in his native England. He's now back on the road, performing tunes from a new album, Positive Vibrations, which will be released later this year. Los Angeles' Mystic Roots Band backs Banton onstage when he plays tonight. Time: 10 p.m. Cost: free. Location: Wilbert's, 812 Huron Rd. Info: www.myspace.com/patobanton

Wednesday, Jan. 31

You may have had classes for nearly three weeks now, but that's no excuse to stop having fun. Throw your homework under your pile of mud and salt-crusted laundry and head to the Grog Shop to check out the Loved Ones, Zolof the Rock & Roll Destroyer, Ryan's Hope, and the Facials. Time: 8 p.m. Cost: $7. Location: the Grog Shop. Info: www.grogshop.gs
