The Case Western men and women's track and field teams competed and placed first in the Spartan Relays this past weekend versus 11 teams from across the country, including rivals Carnegie Mellon and Penn State Behrend. Once again, for the women, Esther Erb led the way with a win in the 5000-meter run, only four seconds off the national qualification time. Other placements by Spartan women included Kristen Bowhers, who placed second in the one-mile, and Whitney Horne, who placed third in the 200-meter and fifth in the 55-meter run.

The Spartan men fared equally as well against the competition, taking the top four spots in the 5000 meter run, with Ryan Gjoraas placing first, Michael Petro second, Austin Schmidt third, and Michael Werneiwski placing fourth. The Spartan men also placed in two field events, with Derrick Moore placing second in the high jump at 1.83 meters, and Pat Benasutti placing second in the weight throw with 14.09 meters. The Spartans look to continue their winning ways today at 6 p.m. at the Case Invitational.
