Printing, elections discussed at general assembly meeting
The USG General Assembly opened its second meeting of the year with executive board reports from President Neil Ursic and committee vice-presidents. Ursic spoke about the USG retreat taking place this weekend to Camp Asbury in Hiram, Ohio to discuss goal -setting and other committee information for the year.
Vice President of Development Myles Nickolich spoke about the campus printing situation and rules regarding standing at sporting events. The Wade and Fribley printers have been replaced by the print2here system where students will be able to print to one of five currently active printing sites, and will be able to use their student ID to have adocument print. The current quota is 500 pages per semester, but efforts are underway to increase that amount.
Also addressed by Nickolich was a rule enforced at Spartan sporting events that prohibited standing in the bleachers. This rule is no longer in effect as long as the standing does not contribute to a security situation.
Fall Election Commissioner Amelia Andrews spoke to the assembly about the fall elections that were underway earlier this week for Class of 2010 representatives and class officers. Around thirty candidates ran in the election, and no position was uncontested. Several candidates were disqualified due to failure to attend meetings or other campaign violations.
The only resolution before USG this week regarded the taping and streaming of General Assembly Meetings. It was voted that the Mediavision video feed should never be stopped, but in the event that USG enters a closed meeting, the audio will be silenced.
Elections for both Case School of Engineering Representative and Director of Information Technology were held. Suneel Kamath and Sophie Chen ran for the Engineering School Representative position, with Chen winning. The election for Director of Information Technology between Eric Johnson and Matt Crowley was won by Crowley.
