Phi Tau sponsors gambling for good cause
Spring break begins tonight (or really, whenever you want it to), but you're going to need something to look forward to once you get back to the drudgery that is school. Never fear; fans of gambling and philanthropy alike are sure to enjoy Phi Kappa Tau's annual Casino Night, which is being held on Saturday, March 24 at the Spot. The event, which will take place between 7 and 11 p.m., raises money for Camp Boggy Creek, a Florida camp which caters exclusively to terminally ill children, who often do not get opportunities to enjoy nature like children who do not suffer from disease.
"Boogy Creek is a place like no other. All the kids have one week to forget about their conditions and have the chance to be kids and have fun," said senior Mike Rienzo. Many of the brothers of Phi Kappa Tau have had first hand experience working with campers at Boggy Creek, and have seen the results of events such as Casino Night impact the lives of children with chronic illness. Last year, Casino Night raised nearly $2000 for Boggy Creek and its campers, and the brothers of Phi Kappa Tau hope to raise even more through their efforts this year.
Not a big gambling fan? Under the impression that royal flushes have something to do with regal bathrooms? Fortunately, Phi Kappa Tau's Casino Night caters to all skill levels, promising fun for more serious gamblers as well as less experienced players. Games at this event will include roulette, blackjack, craps, and other assorted table games; for those who favor poker, Delta Upsilon's Poker Tournament will be held at the same time at the Spot. Admission is $5, and starts players off with play money and a raffle ticket for a door prize, but players can spend however much they like through the night to keep playing. Much like Chuck E. Cheese, the "play" money winners accumulate through the night can be redeemed for raffle tickets for prizes which have been donated from various locales, including the Cheesecakse Factory, Target, Wackadoo's, and other fine area establishments. As an added bonus, the grand prize will be a dinner date with a Phi Kappa Tau brother of the winner's choice.
So when you get back from Spring Break, rest assured that there will still be fun to be had in the freezing tundra of Cleveland, and all for a good cause, so be sure to brush up your poker face in time for Casino Night on March 24 at the Spot.
