Alumni to have a new home
It is obvious to any student who has to traverse the endless construction that the campus will soon be home to many new buildings bringing life to University Circle. One project that won't require too much construction is the new Alumni House.
The Alumni House is a project that was started by former President Hundert in attempt to reach out to our alumni. This will be a place where alumni can meet, network, socialize, conduct business, interact with the campus community, and engage in other activities.
Although the intial site for the house was to be on Euclid Ave. between Thwing and Mather Quad, a new site was found in the current PerceptIS house.
"This is an existing home on Juniper Road that is being renovated to include inviting reception and meeting areas, offices for Alumni Association staff, and a business area for alumni," said Interim President Eastwood in a recent letter to the campus.
The house will hold offices, conference rooms, a library, a restaurant, a great room that holds 250 people, an alumni wall of fame, and more.
The Alumni House is called a home away from home for alumni, but there will not be a place for alumni to stay. They will, instead, have to go to a hotel and travel to the house.
With the recent rebranding and second rebranding of the university, there has been a bit of a schism between the Case alumni and the Western Reserve alumni. The first rebranding to "Case" caused a drop in donations from Western Reserve alumni. It is hoped that the change to Case Western Reserve will help relieve some of the tension between the two alumni groups.
The Alumni House might also help remedy the situation because it will be a place where all alumni can come together and enjoy the campus.
The opening of the building has strategically been planned for Oct. 4, to coincide with Homecoming/Alumni weekend and bring more alumni to the opening event.
