USG Briefs

Myles Nickolich, VP of Student Life, reported that USG has hired two new IT architects, Kevin Kubasik and David Kruger. The Student Life committee is continuing work on purchasing more plasma screen TVs.

David Gasser, VP of Finance, reported that there were 134 applications for mass funding amounting to about $223,000 in total requests. Gasser expects USG will provide $93,000 in funding. Student groups will be notified of their funding by midnight Saturday. Appeals from student groups for mass funding will be heard next week and the week after final allocations will be made public. The new USG budget will be introduced next week.

Adam Rupe, VP of Public Relations, reported that inauguration of the newly elected members of USG will take place on April 26. The Public Relations committee is continuing work on this semester's Study Over. The Case branding fair is being held today in Thwing. Students will be able to view the proposals for the new logo and give feedback.

Nicole Hofert, election commissioner, and Nickolich reported that there were voting problems in the USG elections last week. Freshmen and students with too many credits for their class standings were not able to vote. Freshmen with sophomore standing could vote for both freshmen and sophomore elections. The problems were fixed by Thursday afternoon. All votes before 1 p.m. were scrapped and voting was renewed.

Bill 16-13, which contains constitutional and election laws amendments, was introduced to the general assembly. Every year the Judicial Board reviews the constitution and suggests changes. Revisions to the constitution include changing the IT Director to a VP position and separating the class officer collective from USG. The bill will be sent to the student body as a referendum along with a proposed change to the Student Executive (SEC) that would make the Class Officer collective an official member of SEC.

The last funding bill of the year, Bill 16-15, was passed by the general assembly. It provides $3686 to student groups and recognizes the Kendo Club as a student group.

Kathleen Norman addressed the General Assembly in regards to creating a Student Alumni Association. The goal of the group would be to improve relations between alumni and current students. Activities would involve planning local events as well as improving contact with alumni in other areas of the country. Norman asked for student volunteers to help start the project.
