Ask Amy...
As the end of the semester draws near, students are finalizing their plans for the summer.
Many students will intern at companies all across the nation including General Electric, Deloitte Consulting, Cleveland Clinic, and Gucci. Some students will graduate and start full-time positions with Teach for America, L'Oreal, Brulant, Goldman Sachs, Accenture, Key Bank, and more. For others, school is not over; many Case students will start graduate/professional school in the fall.
Each year the Career Center administers the First Destination Survey, which is designed to capture the post-graduation plans (employment, graduate school, etc.) of all graduating seniors. The reason for doing this is twofold: 1) It aids the Career Center in improving its programs and services and 2) it provides valuable information to the academic departments to help them understand how their students are doing in regard to outcomes.
Highlights from the 2006 First Destination Survey include:
• 79 percent of the class survey respondents reported participating in at least one form of experiential learning; nearly half (49 percent) of those took part in five or more forms of experiential learning.
• Respondents ranked co-op, practicum, study abroad, internships, and research as the most valuable forms of experiential learning.
• 84 percent of students who reported being employed indicated that the position they found required a college degree and was related to their field of study.
• The median salary range for the class was $50,000-$55,000, an increase of $5000 over the previous class.
• 43 percent reported pursuing an advanced degree; schools in which students were accepted include Columbia, Harvard, MIT, and Stanford
If you're a graduating senior and have yet to complete the First Destination Survey, there's still time. You can access the survey by going to the Career Center's website (http://studentaffairs.case.edu/careers/).
