Spartan Spotlight: Julianna Burrows
Major, sport, etc.: Julianna Burrows is a junior art education and studio art major who plays on the volleyball team.
Event/position (if applicable): Middle hitter/all-around. I'm what they call "versatile."
High school/hometown: Grosse Pointe South High School/Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.
Years participating in volleyball: 11 solid years.
What inspired you to play volleyball: Fifth grade gym class, and the fact that I could "bump" the ball over the net.
Hobbies/extracurricular activities: Painting, listening to music, hanging out with my family and friends, going for walks in the rain, wearing fake glasses, and the color pink.
Academic honors: All-Academic and Dean's List
Athletic honors: In high school I was named captain, MVP, and all-conference. At Case, I have been fortunate enough to be named co-captain this year, and fourth in the UAA for digs last season.
Best Volleyball Memory: Winning a division at the National Championships with my club team.
Worst Volleyball Memory: Splitting my chin open during 2-a-days freshman year.
Jeffrey T. Verespej: No complaints – get tough. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Julianna Burrows: A fantastic artist, with my own studio, freelancing in design, and married to my Mr. Wonderful. I'll have cute kids wearing cute hats and a dog named Kiwi.
JTV: Favorite zthlete?
JB: Joshua Dudek. He's so dreamy. In a close second comes Tayshaun Prince. Quite frankly the Pistons rock my world. Oops! Did I just say that in Cleveland?
JTV: Tayshaun Prince doesn't hold a candle to Josh Dudek – I hear that Mrs. Dudek jerseys are selling better than the Grady Sizemore ones. Tell me something most people don't know about you.
JB: I am the foster mom of a baby elephant named Makena in Africa!
JTV: Do you make it wear awful hats too? What makes volleyball stand out from other sports?
JB: Spandex…enough said.
JTV: Well that and it can be played on the beach. If you could invite any three people to dinner, living or dead, who would they be and why?
JB: Andre Agassi because he is an athletic legend. Stacy and Clinton from What Not to Wear because their fashion sense is amazing. And Claude Monet because he is an artistic inspiration of mine.
JTV: That was four people...I hope you don't keep score. What's it like being a sex symbol to millions of lonely Case guys?
JB: I'm a sex symbol?
JTV: Probably not but it's a good question to ask. Finish this sentence: Volleyball is like a guy…
JB: You can pass them up, dig them, set them aside, or go in for the kill.
JTV: Point taken. Is it tough dating a superstar of the Spartan football team like Josh Dudek?
JB: Of course not. I'm his lucky charm, and the lucky girl wearing the number two!
JTV: Yeah, the number two worked out for Tim Couch too. If you could be one place but Case (like you would ever want to leave), where would you go?
JB: Australia. I dig the accent.
JTV: A bump reference before and now the dig. It's my job to be funny here, okay? If you could be a guy for a day, what would you do?
JB: Go to the mall and pick out hundreds of fabulous ties!
JTV: Because Case guys do that all the time. We're not Oberlin. If you could participate in any other sport, which would you pick and why?
JB: Tennis because you can accessorize while you play.
JTV: Super! What would we find in your locker right now that might surprise us?
JB: Sequined elastic…my teammates will understand.
JTV: Let's hope so because I am very scared. What's the weirdest nickname you ever had?
JB: Burritos. "Little Burrows"…get it?
JTV: No I don't. That's it, this interview's over.
