Alumni Mystery Tour program kicks off
Life at Case can be stressful, but this weekend, second-year students will get a break from their busy schedules. Saturday marks the introduction of a new program, "The Case Alumni Mystery Tour," created by Case Alumni, the Office of Alumni Affairs, and the Office of Housing, Residence Life and Greek Life. The program consists of six experiential trips throughout the academic year to various exciting and secret locations.
The highlight of this program is the secrecy surrounding its destination of which participants will not have prior knowledge. But worry not; Case does not plan to send students to sight-see at a dumpster or taste the wonderful entrées at McDonald's. Examples of possible events can range from a tour of NASA, to witnessing a live surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, to eating at a five-star gourmet restaurant. Each trip will offer a different experience with Case alumni. Since not everyone will be comfortable climbing a cliff or sailing on Lake Erie, clues will be given prior to the trip to deter students who may have phobias of a particular nature.
Currently, Residence Life staff members from Carlton Road Complex, Murray Hill Complex, and Clarke Tower are promoting the events with flyers and word of mouth. "It's a great opportunity to develop relationships with Case Alumni and to see what Cleveland has to offer," said Diane Lui, a Carlton Road Complex second year residential assistant.
For each event, there will be clues on what to wear, what to bring, and what to expect. For example, directives such as "do not suffer from acrophobia" can imply rock climbing or any high-altitude activities. This Saturday, the first clue is to "wear comfortable walking shoes and enjoy behind-the-scenes-tours".
Unfortunately, this event is only open to second-year students. First-year students will have to wait until next year, and third- and fourth-year students will just have to stand on the sidelines, green with envy.
"This event is all about the second-year students. It will be a fun, memorable, and exciting experience. The only worry I have is that we will have to turn away students because of the limited amount of tickets," said Jacob Clemens, coordiantor of the Second Year Residence Education for the Murray Hill Complex and one of the organizers of this event.
The trip is free to students and includes a free meal at a local restaurant. Tickets will be distributed today at 6 p.m. in Fribley and Clarke Tower. However, only 38 lucky students will be able to attend. The bus will depart Fribley Commons at 10 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m. from Clarke Tower on Saturday. The trip will last approximately four hours, so students will be back on campus around 2:30 p.m.
With all the upcoming exams and papers, second-year students should recharge their batteries by enjoying hours of worry-free bliss. It is a chance for free food, a great time with friends, an all-expense-paid trip, and an experience to remember.
