The Department of Theater and Dance's first production of the year, Onthe Verge, opens tonight at Eldred Theater On the Verge, a "joyfully feminist comedy" by Eric Overmyer follows the adventures and explorations, both physical and mental, of three proper Victorian women as they travel through space to "terra incognita" and eventually, through time into the future. The cast consists of only four students: Emily Demko as Mary, Jessica Agus as Alexandra, Marie Huntley as Fanny, and Max Sills as Alphonse (and others), pictured above.

What do I mean, travel space and time? Mary, Alexandra, and Fanny make their way through diverse locales and time periods, maintaining their pithy Victorian sensibilities even into the bustling, disconcerting 20th century, meeting yeti, fortune tellers, and other characters along the way. This is a lighthearted comedy whose very premise asks the audience to suspend disbelief for an evening, sit back, and enjoy Overmyer's playful treatment of words, pop culture, and the absurdities of the past century. The witty two-act show explores the relationships the three women form through their travels, and outsiders' view of modernity; for example, one of the women comments on the changing use of language through the 20tj century by remarking, "I have seen the future, and it is slang." On the Verge promises to provide a great start to the Eldred season, so go check it out!

On the Verge is playing Sep. 29, 30,;Oct. 5, 6, 7 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 1 and 8 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students, $7 for adults over 60, faculty, and staff, and $10 for all others. More information can be found at www.case.edu/artsci/thtr/index.html, or by calling (216) 368-4868.
