ISA dinner tomorrow
Tomorrow evening, the Undergraduate Indian Student Association will present its annual cultural show and dinner. The show has sold out every year and this year promises to have a similar draw.
"We hope to continue the success that we had at last year's show and make it into a bigger and more exciting event for not only the audience but for the performers as well," said Aabha Jain, vice president of UISA.
The show will be in Thwing Ballroom. Doors open at 5:15 p.m., dinner starts at 5:45 p.m., and the show starts at 7:45 p.m.
The night includes dinner catered by Saffron Patch. Appetizers will include samosas, which are fried pastries filled with potatoes and peas. Dinner dishes will include palaak paneer, which is a spinach dish seasoned with Indian spices. The food is popular each year to those who have experienced it before and to those who are tasting for their first time.
After dinner, the show begins with the Indian and American national anthems, performed by Dhamakapella, the Indian a cappella group. The show goes into other acts including a fashion show, classical Indian dances, bhangra, raas, and Bollywood dances. A lot of the dances present a mixture of classical Indian dance with Western dancing or hip hop. Traditional dances from different states in India are represented by the students.
The Hindu Student Association will also be performing. "The HSA has a tight skit that takes you through the journey of Krishna's ten incarnations with a modern twist and good humor," said Preema Mehta, a junior in HSA and UISA.
"I have heard a lot of good things about the ISA cultural show from the undergraduate admissions reps even before coming here, and from everything I've seen during rehearsals, it seems like it'll be a great show," said freshmen Himali Bhatt.
Tickets are $10 for Case students and $15 for non-Case students, and includes dinner. For the show without dinner, there is a $3 suggested donation, which is only available at the door. Tickets can be purchased today at Nord and Thwing during Community Hour and in Wade from 8-9 p.m.
