Homecoming unites Students and Alumni

Student groups on campus painted spirit banners for Homecoming that are now on display alongside the Binary Walkway.

For the many students stressing about midterms, this weekend will provide a great chance to kick back and relax as Homecoming festivities begin.

Homecoming weekend officially started last night with the Powderpuff football game at the Village. Junior and senior girls took the field against each other while their male classmates cheered them on from the sidelines.

Today, there is a pep rally and barbecue at the Village at 5 p.m. After some food, students can meander to Case Field to watch the soccer doubleheader against Washington University.

Saturday starts off with the parade at 10 a.m. on Northside, featuring floats from different campus groups, former athletes in letter sweaters, and the Homecoming court.

After the parade, there's a tailgate party in the Village until noon. Ten dollars gets you a buffet lunch and the company of some cheerleaders and the Spartan mascot.

At noon, the stadium will go crazy as the Spartans take the field against the Carnegie Mellon Tartans.

This game always proves to be one of the most anticipated and most exciting of the year.

During halftime, the Homecoming court will be presented, and Case's Homecoming king and queen will be crowned.

The day concludes with the homecoming dance in Thwing Ballroom at 9 p.m. This year's theme is "70s Fever!"

"My parents are coming for the weekend, so it will be fun to go to the football game and share all the excitement with them, not to mention the soccer games on Friday and Sunday," said Amanda Dellens, a senior and a member of the women's soccer team.

Homecoming weekend also coincides with Alumni Weekend, which hopes to attract alumni of all years with a number of events planned on and off campus. Reunions planned for the weekend are for the classes of 2001, 1996, 1981, 1966, 1956, 1951, and 1946.

"I think that Homecoming is a great event that unites us as a student body. It gives everyone the chance to come together and openly show the pride we have for each other and our school," said Emily Antes, a senior and president of the Spartan Cheerleaders.
