Case Model UN takes on global issues, wins awards
During the last weekend in October, a cloud of well-dressed professionals descended upon the Crowne Plaza Resort in downtown Cleveland to solve some of the world's greatest problems. Starting with reducing military budgets and proceeding to deciding how to try terrorists in international courts, the students at this year's Lake Erie International Model United Nations (LEIMUN) conference arrived determined to save the world.[read more]
Maryland artist brings stop-motion films to Sculpture Center
Enter the dark world of Brent Green and you will encounter a twisted realm of bizarre objects and gnarly characters created by Green for his original stop-motion films. The Sculpture Center's current exhibition, Brent Green: Animation in 4 Dimensions, is an uncanny display of film sets and props that will make any member of my generation who grew up following cult figures like Tim Burton feel right at home.[read more]
Spartans maul Bears, continue winning streak
The Spartans are 9-0 and UAA champions after defeating the Bears of Washington University 35-27. The win marked the first time since 1991 that the Spartans have beaten Wash. U. and the first time in school history that Case has claimed an outright UAA championship. The Bears defense tested Case early and often, allowing the Bears offense to score first on an 11-yard run from running back Matt Glenn. The Bears took the early lead, 6-0, after linebacker Tom Brew blocked the point after attempt.[read more]
Team Case just misses finals during first year of DARPA Urban Challenge
After nearly a year-and-a -half journey, Case's DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) Urban Challenge team just missed making the final round of the international Grand Challenge in robotics. But for its first time competing in the challenge, the team was a tremendous success, competing against the most technologically advanced universities and institutions in the world.The team returned Monday night from its nearly two-week trip to California where the challenge took place.[read more]
Editorial: Unite in support for team, university
We've got no spirit, how about you?Let's face it: Case Western Reserve University is seldom noted for its athletic accomplishments. We're more likely to be known for our academic endeavors and research breakthroughs. Until now. For the first time ever, Case's football team has claimed an outright University Athletic Association championship. They are nationally ranked at No. 18 in the American Football Coaches Association Division III Coaches' Poll with an undefeated record of 9-0.[read more]
