Season ends on high note for women's soccer
Case women's soccer ended their season on a high note Nov. 3 by ending a scoring drought and tying a tough University of Rochester team 1-1.
"Obviously it was Senior Day as well as our final game. The girls really played for the seniors; preparations the entire week really contributed big pieces to the excellent game," said coach Tiffany Crooks.
Seniors Kelly Goris and Bridget Mason each played their final games as Spartans as Katie Skillin, plagued this year by injury, looked on. Goris played with a badly bruised foot for 110 minutes, setting the tone for the Spartans. Not to be outdone, Mason scored Case's first goal in seven games off a corner in the 71st minute, tying the game.
"It was just tremendous [that Bridget scored in her final game]. No one is more deserving; to have a competitor like her is a blessing. We were able to make something out of nothing, getting that corner, where we had no opportunity. It changed the entire complexion of the game," said Crooks.
The Rochester Yellowjackets were in the top half of the UAA, ending the season with a total record of 10-5-3.
For her efforts in Saturday's game, Kirsten McClain was named a UAA player of the week. With 15 saves on the night, her crowning moment came when she deflected a point-blank rocket off a Rochester break-away that made the frigid crowd of around 100 gasp.
"I am thrilled where we're at. It was a great way to end a season and is a good indicator of where the program is going in the future. I took nothing but positives from this game," said Crooks.
