Wrestling kicks off season
The Case wrestling team opened their season last Saturday with a fourth-place finish at the Messiah College Invitational. While the team did not have a great showing, there were some very outstanding individual performances. The most notable was junior Drew Gardella, who won the 149-pound weight class after a first round bye, second round pin, and two victories by decision. His efforts earned him the UAA's Athlete of the Week award.
Another Spartan who placed well was junior David Bernholt, who finished second in the 165-pound weight class. BJ Greenman also wrestled well, finishing 4-1 on the day with a third-place finish in the 174-pound weight class. The Spartans' next match is this Saturday against Baldwin-Wallace, Waynesburg, and Mt. Saint Joseph's colleges. The contest will take place at Baldwin-Wallace and begin at noon.
