Spartan Spotlight: Colleen Martin
The Basics: Colleen Martin is a third year management major from Cleveland, Ohio. She has an older sister and brother, and a younger sister. She's on the basketball team.
Chris Lambert: How many years have you played basketball?
Colleen Martin: Since second grade. So about 13 years. You would think I would be a little more talented.
CL: Regardless, I'm sure your parents always encouraged you no matter what. What's your favorite moment as a player?
CM: I blocked a 6'6" Gorgonite.
CL: You blocked Rob Skuski? Nice job. What's your favorite sports moment?
CM: Cleveland Cavs being Eastern Conference Champs.
CL: My favorite part was us winning. My second favorite part was Detroit losing. Best memory at Case?
CM: I would say my best memories revolve around the nights I don't remember.
CL: Sounds like a Facebook quote. Best class you've taken at Case?
CM: Sign language.
CL: Unique. Favorite place to eat in Cleveland?
CM: When you're a wide-load like me, it's not really the place, it's more the amount they put on your plate.
CL: Touché. I recommend Brasa, then. All you can eat prime cuts of steak for 45 bucks. You pay a lot, but you get your money's worth. Who's your favorite athlete?
CM: Mary Herendeen, she has such impressive speed. There's also Case's own Chazz Michael Michaels and Jimmy MacElroy who are pretty talented and look sexy dressed up too.
CL: Case is proud to be the undergraduate home of the gold-medal winning duo! And Mary is fast. I'd put my money on her if she raced Frank "The Tank." What's your hobby or hidden talent?
CM: Bull riding.
CL: You should start a club on campus. Have anyone you want to send a shout out to?
CM: My family, and pretty much all my close friends. They mean the world to me.
CL: And hopefully they all read The Observer. What do you want to do for a living?
CM: Plus-size model.
CL: Good for you. Best advice you've ever received?
CM: Everything happens for a reason.
CL: That's a very good piece of advice. I like, "life is 10% what happens, and 90% how you react to it." If you could send any three people to live on a desert island, who would you send and why?
CM: Michael Jackson, my little neighbor Timmy…and I guess a priest. It'd be some great bonding.
CL: That's an interesting selection you have there, Colleen. I would pick Ben Roethlisberger, Rasheed Wallace, and Jonathan Papelbon and hope for no survivors. What's your favorite quote?
CM: "Never monkey with another monkey's monkey." -Steve Young.
CL: Steve is a wise man. Best opportunity Case has afforded you?
CM: The words "Case" and "afford" should not be in the same sentence.
CL: No, you're probably right. What's one thing you recommend everyone should try?
CM: Bull riding.
CL: Start the club! What are your predictions for this season?
CM: We're going to be considered the underdog for every game; it's going to be awesome to upset some teams because we've been working extremely hard this year. All I can predict is unexpected results.
CL: That's Case in general.
