Student Profile: Ashley Gan
Frisbee player, Greek woman, and scientist extraordinaire, Ashley Gan is a highly involved student on campus. She is not only extremely dedicated to her sorority, but also an exemplary student. Balancing academics and extracurriculars is difficult at Case, but between research and Frisbee, Ashley somehow manages to do it all. As captain of the Fighting Gobies and secretary of the Undergraduate Materials Society, she takes her academics and hobbies to the extreme.
Ruchi Asher: Let's start with the basics: what's your year, major, and hometown?
Ashley Gan: I'm a junior majoring in materials science and engineering, and Kettering, Ohio is my hometown (it's by Dayton, where the Wright brothers were from).
RA: What are you involved with on campus? Which activity takes up most of your time?
AG: I'm involved in Delta Gamma, Undergraduate Materials Society, SOURCE Advisory Board, and Ultimate Frisbee. At the moment, Ultimate Frisbee is my life, but it's starting to loosen its grip.
RA: Where can you normally be found on a Saturday morning?
AG: On a field somewhere in the Midwest, throwing a Frisbee.
RA: Why did you pick Case?
AG: Money, money, money! I also felt like this was the only college that I applied to where the admissions staff actually wanted me to attend, instead of assuming that this was my first choice. I felt very welcomed from the very beginning.
RA: What was your first impression of Case?
AG: I was really surprised at how much green space there was; I was expecting a concrete campus.
RA: What are three things you love about Cleveland?
AG: The museums, my sisters, and Case.
RA: Three things you would change around campus/about Cleveland?
AG: I'd love an ice cream place in University Circle, and some more field space for club sports would be wonderful. Also, I think everybody agrees with me on this one: no more construction!
RA: If you were playing hide-and-seek on the Quad, where is the best hiding place?
AG: White 306: there are comfy couches, a sweet computer, a fridge, and an oven. All you need to survive at Case.
RA: Which is better, living on Northside or Southside?
AG: Hmm, that's tough. Southside is closer to the Case Quad, but Northside has bigger rooms...I guess Southside. I'm lazy.
RA: Elephant stairs or Phi Psi stairs?
AG: Elephant stairs.
RA: The Office or Grey's Anatomy?
AG: Oooh, that's a really, really hard one. It would depend on my mood. I honestly cannot pick between the two.
