The Pakistani Student Association presents a tasty, cute way to kick off the weekend. Mithai, a cultural word to describe sweets, is on the menu as well as chai, which is a type of tea. Put it all together and it comes out as Chai and Mithai Night, featuring entertainment by Case's own Asad Butt and singing troupe Dhamakapella. Time: 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Cost: $5. UPB puts on its annual fall concert, featuring indie pop band Oppenheimer opening for They Might Be Giants, a nifty rock duo most famous for its song "Boss of Me," which is in the opening montage for hit TV show Malcolm in the Middle. If you don't feel like moshing at the concert, join the Asian American Alliance at Chinese restaurant Bo Loong for a night of wild karaoke. Smoke Signals was an independent film made in the late 90s that collected an impressive haul of film festival awards, including being nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the '98 Sundance Film Festival. Native American screenwriter Sherman Alexie, who penned the story about an Indian and his friend going on a road trip, comes to town as part of the Cleveland Public Library's Writers & Readers lecture series. The U.S. government reaches out to the people with a fascinating and somewhat disturbing exhibit featuring counterfeit money printed by Nazi Germany. More than 70 original bills, called "scrip," were given to German Jews (in exchange for their life savings) to get basic necessities in the time of the Holocaust. Once they reached the concentration camps, they realized their "scrip" was worth nothing. If you have the time and transportation, this is a true gem of an experience.
