MaDaCol offers provocative, insightful look at dance

This weekend, MaDaCol, Case's own student-directed dance ensemble, composed of students, faculty, and staff, puts on their annual fall dance production. Featuring choreography by both undergraduate and graduate dance students, this fall's production promises to be both entertaining and enlightening.

Senior Megan Chirby has choreographed a work that will explore character qualities through dance, focusing on simple actions such as climbing, bouncing, and running, while a first-year graduate student, Sernaz Demirel, presents his work, Nobody Is Here. The newly-designed piece features music by The Cinematic Orchestra, and raises important questions about the influence imagination can have on actual observations.

Also a first-year graduate student, Jennifer Lakamp will be presenting Keep All the Rest In, Never Again, a work paying homage to the city of New Orleans, featuring the music of Violaine Corradi and the Cambridge King's College Choir. The final piece was choreographed by second-year graduate student Jamie Knurek, and is entitled From Where I Am. Using an ensemble of 10 to represent personal strength and insight, Knurek's piece promises to be a highlight of the performance.

MaDaCol will be performing in the Mather Dance Center on Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. and on Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $4, and can be purchased at the Eldred Box Office. For more information, visit the Dance Department's website at dance.case.edu, or call 216-368-6262.
