Super Bowl Preview
With the Super Bowl in just two days' time, here is the breakdown of the match-up between the underdog New York Giants and the New England Patriots.
QB-PATRIOTS
So far through the playoffs Eli may have been playing like the Man-ning, but one look at his counterpart's credentials shows that he just cannot be the favorite in the match-up. Boot or no boot, Tom's three SB rings automatically give him the upper hand. For him, this week has been a "been here done that" type of deal. With everything being new to Eli, the G-Men can only hope he doesn't get flustered.
RB-GIANTS
I personally prefer a Brandon Jacobs over a Laurence Maroney; Jacobs might not have the blazing speed that will allow him to pull away from defenders, but it does not mean he doesn't have big-play capabilities. He will especially come in handy in short yardage situations, and in the red zone where Jeremy Shockey used to play a crucial role, Jacobs will have to fill the void. It will be hard for the Pats to stop the J-truck from getting where he wants to be.
O-Line vs. D-Line Matchup –
PATRIOTS
The Giants have two of the top defensive ends in the land, but I still think that the Patriots line will handle them well. It wouldn't matter if Brady wanted to wear the foot brace during the game, he would still have enough time to throw. As for the other match-up, I feel bad for Eli. His day is going to be tough with the Pats defense coming at him harder than ever. I wouldn't be surprised if he throws a couple picks purely due to pressure.
Defense – PATRIOTS
Though both defenses are good, especially the Giants' as of late, the Patriots will have a better match-up against the opposing offense. The Giants will struggle to keep tabs on the powerful trifecta of Moss, Welker, and Stallworth. The Pats will be able to double-team Burress and not worry as much with the absence of Shockey. Though they are aging, the Patriots linebackers have very high football I.Q.s.
Special Teams – TOSS UP
Due to recent events it's hard to come to a conclusion. It would be hard to say the Patriots, because of the youth of their kicker Stephen Gostkowski. But after last week's performance, G-Men kicker Tynes leaves people to wonder if he will knock down the winning field goal or choke under pressure.
Coaching/Intangibles –
PATRIOTS
Tom Coughlin, though he has had some success, has never had a complete hold of his position in New York due to his inability to win the big game. Now in the biggest game of his Giants career, we will see how he steps up to the plate. On the other hand, Belichick's history precedes him. He is a mastermind of the game and will undoubtedly have the Patriots ready for Sunday.
Prediction
24-10, Patriots over Giants.
