Campus crime is preventable
Though crime has gone up in areas surrounding Case's campus, police have responded with a number of new programs.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation recently released their preliminary crime reports for 2007 that show a nationwide decrease of 1.8 percent for violent crimes. Their statistics also show that crime has gone down in Cleveland, but does that mean students feel safer on campus?The answer is no. At best, students feel that crime on campus has not changed at all in the past few years.[read more]

Case considers drilling at Squire Valleevue Farm

The biology department is against it. The graduate students are against it. The people in charge of making it happen haven't decided if it's even going to happen."We're not drilling tomorrow," said Lara Kalafatis, vice president for University Relations. "We're just beginning to think about it."The contested issue is drilling for natural gas at Case's Squire Valleevue Farm.[read more]

Veale cracks down on dishonest ID card use

Case students can no longer sneak friends, acquaintances, or that guy off the street into the Veale Center with an old ID card. This semester, a new card reader was placed at the front desk of the building to force students to use their own, active Case IDs.Although there is already a card reader at the front entrance of Veale, it was deemed not sufficient in preventing unauthorized users from entering the building. Once a registered student swipes a card, the door remains open for 30 seconds.[read more]
