Rock for Doc concert celebration to honor chemistry professor tomorrow
Mortar Board is again hosting Rock for Doc in honor of a beloved chemistry professor who passed away in May 2005. Dr. Ignacio Ocasio, more commonly known as Doc Oc, was an invaluable member of the CWRU community, not only as a teacher and adviser but also as a friend. His excellence in teaching and commitment to the community has left a lasting legacy on campus.
The Rock for Doc concert celebration will take place this Saturday in the Thwing Ballroom from 1 to 4 p.m. As a tribute to his love for music, the event will feature performances from some of the most talented students at CWRU. Featured performers include Miles, the dance team, Case in Point, the Swing Club, Solstice, Case Raas Goondas, Speakeasy, Bigger than a Bread Box, the Juggling Club, Case Men's Glee Club, David Jefferson, and Dr. Diana Driscoll. In addition, the event includes a free buffet lunch and great raffle prizes. Rock for Doc will also feature an opportunity to share a personal memory of Doc Oc, a tribute video of Doc Oc's greatest moments, and a vote for a "Top Prof" award in Doc Oc's honor. All proceeds will benefit the Doc Oc Memorial Fund, a scholarship endowment for talented students, and the Doc Oc Statue Fund, a student initiative to erect a bench/statue of Doc Oc on the CWRU campus. Admission is free of charge, and donations will be accepted at the event and online at http://filer.case.edu/org/mortar_board/rockfordoc.html.
Doc Oc was a truly special member of the CWRU community. Even in classes with hundreds of students, he made it a priority to learn every student's name and to become personally involved in his or her life. Though the class of 2008 was the last class to experience Doc Oc's phenomenal teaching, his legacy will continue to live on for years to come.
