USG Briefs
President Adam Rupe will be appointing a member of USG to the Provost Search Committee and made the assembly aware that the Board of Trustees would be meeting this week to have dinner in Leutner on Thursday with a panel discussion to follow on Friday with student leaders.
The Student Life committee continues to work on the Greenie system with a proposed resolution in the works involving redesigning routes, moving stops, and adding new features to the system. The committee is also looking into the campus pet policy and the recycling program.
In the Finance committee, a new discussion about ticket sales for large events has mainly focused on student groups who use ticket sales to make up the difference between their USG allocation and their expenses. The committee is looking into a new policy regarding ticket sales and fundraised money.
The Academic Affairs committee will be holding a focus group to discuss the academic climate in order to better guide the goals for the remainder of the year and beyond. The committee is also looking into the relationship between USG and strategic faculty members in an effort to connect students with professors. The study break will be held March 5, more details next week.
The Public Relations committee will be working on election promotions tied with a discussion on diversity to take place Feb. 27 from 7:30-8:30 p.m. in Thwing. The goal of the program is to create an open, comfortable enviornment to better understand diversity on our campus.
The open forum delved into a few hot topics: the overall usefulness/uselessness of the caucus system currently in place, the need for more CaseCard machines for student groups to use, and the role of USG in response to negative unrestricted online media (Facebook and YouTube). Rupe along with Colleen Barker-Williamson will be putting together a task force to look into the caucus issue.
David Gasser ran unopposed and was elected to the position of Election Commissioner.
Nominations were accepted for the Election commission.
The College of Arts and Science elected two new representatives: Austin Bennett and Nicholas Morcos.
Bill B17-14 to recognize additional student organizations and provide additonal funding was passed. The following student organizations were recognized: Case Hacker Society, Case Glee Club, Biology Society, LEGO Robotics Club, and the National Black MBA Assocation.
