Spartans take Case Tri-Meet
All three squads were a little banged up this past weekend at the Case Tri-Meet, with a total of nine forfeits taking place in Case's two matches. Only three wrestlers even had the opportunity to grapple in more than one match: Nate Klingensmith, David Bernholt, and B.J. Greenman. Greenman finished his Saturday winning both of his matches convincingly, helping Case to a 2-0 record on the day as well. They defeated RIT 26-22, and Muskingum 27-22. Drew Gardella, with two Saturday wins, one by pin, the other by forfeit, has raised his record to 17-3, with two losses coming to a Div. II wrestler from the University of Indianapolis. He should also be a threat this weekend in the Regional Tournament at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Senior David Manoogian, likely among the favorites to compete for a national championship in his weight class, is 16-2 on the season, and hasn't wrestled the past two weekends in order to rest a separated shoulder. Manoogian says the entire team should be healthy this weekend, which has been a rarity this year. "The shoulder is getting better; it's definitely not 100 percent, but I didn't expect it to be. But no matter what, I'm wrestling this week, I don't care how it feels. Bob [Gavlak] will definitely be back and ready to go, so we should finally have a full lineup again for regionals which will be one of the first times all year," he said.
