USG Briefs

President Adam Rupe encouraged everyone to sign up for CaseWARN to receive notifications on security issues. The Caucus Task Force met this week and will have their full report by the first week in April.

The Student Life committee will be gauging reactions to the two resolutions proposed – looking into the dining program for next year and addressing the posting policy in the coming weeks.

In the Finance committee, continued discussion on the fundraising and ticket sale policy is hoped to be finalized by next week. They are also working on the pizza challenge and will be presenting their findings the week of April 7. Mass funding is coming up: forms available March 10, all requests due March 21, allocation meeting March 29, and appeals to occur the week of April 7.

The Academic Affairs committee will report on its focus group to discuss the academic climate next week. The committee continues to plan for the Teaching Excellence Awards Reception. Also there will be a Midterm Study Break from 8 p.m. to midnight in KSL on Wednesday, March 5.

The Public Relations committee rescheduled its discussion on diversity to Wednesday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Thwing.

As a result of the Information Technology committee, there will be a new LCD screen in Sears. The committee continues to work on getting similar screens in other locations. The USG development server is being repaired and the finance system should be available again soon. For the upcoming elections the existing survey system will be used; they look to revise the survey system in the future.

The open forum focused on possible homecoming themes and dates for the event.

David Gasser recommended four members to the election commission: Jeff Beverly, Sonia Merritt, Kyle Brady, and Andrew Witte. All were approved by the general assembly.

In new business, a bill and three resolutions were presented for discussion. Bill B.17-15 appropriates the number of representatives for the 2008-2009 school year. Election commissioner Gasser spoke in the pro and assured everyone that the representation would be fair based on current enrollment in each college. The bill was passed.

Resolution R.17-15 dealt with the improvement recommendations to the Greenie shuttle system. Various route changes were proposed along with improvements to the NextBus tracking system, stop shelters, driver timeliness, and overall awareness of the routes and stop locations. The resolution was passed and will be presented to the interested parties at the university and beyond to begin talks of implementation.

Resolution R.17-16 proposed a re-evaluation in the pet policy. The resolution would change the current policy to allow for pets on campus grounds, provided they are leashed and adequately picked up after. The resolution was passed and will be passed onto the interested parties at the university.
