Vote carefully for USG representatives
To the Editor:
This week, spring elections are occurring on campus. While these are not the next U.S. presidential elections, do not underestimate the impact that your student representatives can have. USG, for all its faults, is on campus to serve you and advance your interests. In picking the 2008-2009 assembly, you are voting for what you want to matter next year at Case. These elections should not be a popularity contest; in the end, is the biggest Facebook group or the most colorful flyer going to make the best USG executive or representative? Probably not. Candidates should be judged on what they can do for you if elected.
I encourage all students to read the candidates' letters of intent. See what experience they have, see what they want to do next year if elected, or see if they even have a clue what they could do. This is the largest election in USG history and we have more qualified candidates running than at any other point during my time at Case, but the stakes are even higher. A new strategic plan will be arriving soon, a new provost will be coming on board, and many other changes will require the attention of a dedicated and informed USG. Please decide carefully which candidates represent your values and vote for them to make next year an even better year for students at Case Western Reserve University.
Also, while this year is coming to a close, USG is not going to stop working for you, so please do not hesitate to swing by our office or e-mail us with projects you want us to pursue on your behalf. Good luck, candidates!
Adam Rupe
Outgoing USG president
