None other than Malcolm X, Jungle Fever, Do The Right Thing, The Inside Man, etc. brainchild Spike Lee himself comes in as the keynote speaker for Case's Annual Unity Banquet and Scholarship Benefit. The event raises scholarship funds for underrepresented students attending the university. The amazing event will feature dinner, music, and Lee's talk. If you got the connections, or some extra cash, take the drive to the Executive Caterers at Landerhaven. The peaceful island community of Amity is being terrorized. They can no longer enjoy the sea and the sun as they used to, and the spreading fear is affecting the numbers of tourists that are normally attracted to the island. After many attempts, the great white shark won't go away and sheriff Brody, with friends Hooper and Quint, decides to go after the shark and kill it. Case Film Society shows one of the greatest horror movies of all time in Jaws, crafted by the legend Steven Spielberg. There is still snow on the ground, so don't worry about swimming just yet. Sporting a hair-do that would make Claudio Sanchez proud, Kawabata Makoto once said, "Music, for me, is neither something that I create, nor a form of self-expression. All kinds of sounds exist everywhere around us, and my performances solely consist of picking up these sounds, like a radio tuner, and playing them so that people can hear them." His band, Acid Mothers Temple, comes to town with a contemporary psychedelic rock sound that needs no accompanying illicit drug activity. Check it out. Time: 9 p.m. Cost: $10. Carl Pope, a joint fellow of Case's Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities and CIA, has been an active and vital member of the Northeast Ohio art community for nearly 40 years. In conjunction with Mari Hulick, Pope is bringing an art exhibit that displays the results of a simple question, "What do you think about Cleveland?" The exhibit's main goal is to help promote dialogue among area residents, but it certainly can appeal to a wider audience. Time: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost: Free. Hailing from New York, N.Y., Robbers on High Street mix up all sorts of genres by taking influence from the Beatles, alternative rock band Spoon, etc, to make a fun, upbeat pop sound that will allow anyone to have a great time. Deep horns, piano, bellowing "woo-hoos," all accentuated by vocalist Benjamin Trokan, come to Case Western tonight. Don't miss this concert tonight, put on generously by our very own UPB. The CIA Cinematheque always shows some of the best current, classic, and indie films from around the world. However, tonight is an opportunity to witness their students' unchecked artistic film splendor, as .E.M.I.T 2008 comes to the Cinematheque. Open to all CIA students, .E.M.I.T is a festival of all genres in film, including drama, comedy, experimental, documentary, video art, and even 3D animation. The festival lasts about 120 minutes, but you won't know where the time went. A definite must-see for those who are curious as to how talented our neighbors are. Time: 7 p.m. Cost: $8.
