Emory
The Emory men's swimming and diving team concluded its season on Saturday, finishing in fourth place at the NCAA Div. III Swimming and Diving Championships in Oxford, Ohio. The Eagles finished the meet with a total of 261 points, as Emory finished behind first-place Kenyon College (635 points), second-place Johns Hopkins University (330 points), and third-place Denison University (314.5 points). On the third and final day of competition, Emory looked particularly strong in the 1650-yard freestyle; three Eagles earned All-American honors in the event. The Eagles would conclude the meet with an 11th-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. This season marked the first time in the last nine years that the Eagles have failed to finish in the top three at the meet.
Carnegie Mellon
Carnegie Mellon's men's swimming and diving team took five fresh faces to the Div. III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships and finished the weekend strong with three earning All-America Honorable Mentions. Junior Tom McConnell dropped five seconds off his previous best time in the 1650-yard freestyle and finished 12th. Sophomore Jeff Dahlen earned his second All-America Honorable Mention honor of the weekend, finishing 11th overall in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:51.80. Sophomore John Johnson finished 15th in the 200-yard backstroke.
Rochester
Six Rochester baseball players earned All-Association honors from the UAA in balloting of the head coaches. Freshman outfielder Matt Francis, junior catcher Ryan Sullivan, and seniors Jay Jay Vanderstyne (2B) and Ed Kahovec (SS/LF) were named to the first team. Sophomore pitcher Steven Guzski and senior pitcher Peter McEneaney were named to the second team. Kahovec hit .519 in the championships. He was 14 for 27 with six runs scored, three doubles, one home run, and seven RBI. Francis had a .375 batting average. He was also three of three in stolen base attempts. Guzski was just as good. Against Case, he did not give up a run and went seven innings only giving up four hits, four walks, and striking out eight. He did not get the decision in the 4-3 loss. Rochester is 8-3 overall.
Chicago
Senior guard Nofi Mojidi and sophomore forward Molly Hackney combined for 31 of the Maroons' 65 points as the University of Chicago defeated St. Norbert College 65-52 in the second round of the 2008 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Saturday at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The victory moves Chicago (22-5) into the national round of 16. Chicago dominated the first half, outshooting St. Norbert (22-5) 50 percent to 15 percent and out-rebounding the Green Knights 25-11 en route to a 32-16 lead. The Maroons led 52-31 at the 11:10, mark when St. Norbert went on a 13-0 run to cut the gap to 52-44 with 8:03 to go. Chicago shot 50 percent from the field for the game, while limiting the Green Knights to a 32.7 percent effort from the floor.
