Student Profile: Adam Rupe
Whether you've talked to him, seen him from a distance, or have just heard his name, USG president Adam Rupe is one of the most visible students on campus. A senior from New Philadelphia, Ohio, Rupe has truly made a place for himself in the Case community.
Maggie Davis: Starting with the traditional questions, what is/are your major(s)?
Adam Rupe: My majors are history and political science. I am also minoring in psychology and English.
MD: What is your favorite Case experience or memory?
AR: I actually have two. First would be the Vice Presidential Debates from my freshman year (Fall 2004); I worked for MSNBC as a production assistant. I still have my Secret Service badge hanging in my room! Second would be Halloween at the Farm in 2005, where I was co-chair; I had a sense of accomplishment.
MD: Why did you choose to come to Case?
AR: I grew up in a small town and was looking for a bigger city. I came on a horrible day, but still was really excited. I liked all of the opportunities: University Circle, free newspapers…I figured if I'm so excited and it's pouring rain, imagine how excited I'd be if it was nice out!
MD: What activities are you involved in on campus?
AR: Currently, USG (president), Sigma Nu, and orientation. I also used to be a class officer, and I work at the Career Center and am a tour guide. I'm on the Share the Vision Committee and the University Campus Planning Committee as well…a lot of committees.
MD: Do you have a favorite?
AR: Probably the Campus Planning Committee. We are looking at architects (to build a student center), so we get to travel around Ohio and look at other student centers.
MD: OK, so now for some of the more interesting questions. If you were an inanimate object, what would you be and why?
AR: A cup of coffee…I'm addicted to coffee.
MD: What's playing on your iPod?
AR: [laughs] Euro-pop and Eurotrance, classical, some pop…I have a strange taste in music.
MD: If you could meet anyone living or dead, who would it be?
AR: Living, I would like to meet Hillary Clinton. I look up to her and am excited about her presidential campaign. Dead, I'd like to meet Benjamin Franklin or one of the founding fathers; I'm curious of what they would say today.
MD: If you won the lottery, what would you do with the winnings?
AR: Pay for college, probably buy a new car, an Audi. I'm a workaholic and would never stop working. I'd give the rest to medical research, probably targeting ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and Crohn's disease.
MD: What are your future plans post-Case?
AR: I am currently applying to the Peace Corps. After that I plan to get a master's and a doctorate in higher education administration. I'd [like to work with] career planning and eventually teach.
