Resolution regarding tennis coach proposed

Resolution R. 17-03 was introduced to the General Assembly. The resolution calls for a solution regarding the current situation of the tennis team. It called for an investigation of the matters alleged by the tennis team, such as the allegations of résumé fraud and incompetency. The resolution also calls for support by USG to monitor the Department of Athletics for any other problems with staffing, coaching, or athlete treatment.

Athletic Director Dave Diles was at the meeting and outlined the actions the tennis players have taken regarding the current situation. In May he received a letter from the students and discussed with Interim President Eastwood and others issues regarding Rahn. He stated that in 2006-2007 no student athlete came to see him to express any concerns regarding Rahn. All of the issues and concern raised have been discussed with VP Glenn Nichols and Eastwood. Throughout the summer an investigation was done, but Diles cannot say anything about the investigation as any information found by Human Resources is confidential. Diles recommends and encourages team members to engage in discussion with the department.

Tennis team representatives were also at the meeting. A representative outlined the actions they had taken regarding Rahn. They had met with Diles in April and July. Lists of complaints were given, which includes Coach Rahn missing Tuesday and Thursday practice for the women's tennis team last year. The tennis team believes that a new coach is needed as the effectiveness of Rahn's coaching is in question and team members are frustrated. They also feel that Coach Rahn is not approachable so they have not talked with her about changing her ways. It was noted that such issues had been raised before, about six or seven years ago by the women's team.
