USG Briefs
President Adam Rupe discussed the ongoing issues regarding the tennis team. Rupe has been working with a tennis representative and VP Nicholls for the past week and believes that the investigation regarding Coach Rahn's allegations were handled according to protocol. Resolution R. 17-03 introduced last week will not be re-introduced. USG hopes to keep together Athletic Director Dave Diles and the tennis team together and discuss the current issues. President Rupe believes that waiting and taking a deliberate approach is the best thing to do.
VP of Student Life Myles Nickolich reported that new plasma screens should be placed in Thwing, Strosacker, Leutner, and Clark Hall in the near future. A Veale Improvement Initiative has been looking at ways Veale can be improved. Students who frequently use Veale are encouraged to contact the committee with ideas. Student Life is also looking at writing a University Circle Traffic Resolution.
Report any Greenie complaints to usg.case.edu/greenie. In the future Student Life hopes to have maps on the Greenie and at the stops so students know the certain areas the Greenie goes to.
VP of Finance David Gasser will be looking at better merit-based applications and requirements for student organizations to be approved by USG.
VP of Academic Affairs David Poerschke reported that he met with Don Feke last week to discuss the status of a new teaching grid which includes the addition of a student activities period in the early evening. The Academic Affairs Committee also has been working on improving the Study Abroad program by addressing current issues including admittance requirements into the Study Abroad programs, restrictions for seniors in studying abroad, and restrictions for students only being allowed to study aboard in one location in a semester or one year – students cannot study in two separate locations during two semesters.
VP of Information Technology Andrew Witte reported that they need additional architects, to be hired by USG and the IT committee for work on the USG website, such as the finance and election system. A computer programming background is required. They are currently working on including a caucus of each section on the USG website.
Nominations for the Judicial Board were made. They are looking for six additional members including the parliamentarian, who would evaluate internal USG policies such as funding policies and bylaws. Voting will occur next week. Those interested are encouraged to talk with their representatives for nominations.
The Student Alumni Association plans on creating ways for current students to interact with the alumni and create a networking system. The next open forum will be held Sept. 24 in the Rough Rider Room in Carlton Commons. E-mail cak36@case.edu with questions or ideas.
Fall Leadership Conference will be held Sept. 29 from noon to 5:30 p.m.
Fast-a-thon, hosted by the Muslim Student Association will be held on Sept. 29 in the Thwing ballroom. Indian food will be provided.
