Die In
Last Friday, Case's chapter of STAND, the student anti-genocide coalition, held an event known as a "Die-In." Outside of Nord, dozens of students feigned death by lying in front of the entrance stairs, drawing attention from both students and staff to their cause. This being STAND's first semester as a formally recognized campus organization, members tried to start the semester off with an attention-grabbing event.
Currently, STAND is primarily concerned with promoting peace in Darfur, but they are also concerned with the recent events in Chad and Sudan.
In addition to the "Die-In," STAND also sponsored a rally Sunday, involving a live band, a speaker who had worked with the Lost Boys of Sudan, and Sudanese food, all to bring awareness to the reality of genocide.
Later in the semester, STAND will co-sponsoring a "Dinner with the Democrats," which is featuring speaker John Prendergast, author of Not on Our Watch: the Mission to End Genocide in Darfur and Beyond.
