Augustana welcomes back students

In typical UPB fashion, the organization continued their string of high profile bands last week, kicking off the semester with a phenomenal Welcome Back Concert featuring opener Silbia Han and headlining band Augustana. The concert was held last Friday evening outside of Leutner in the beautiful Cleveland evening weather, as Case students showed up in droves ready to welcome the new school year in style.

Hailing from San Diego, Calif., this indie piano-rock band's refreshing sound enticed a majority of Case's 1050 new students, along with crowds of upperclassmen, out of their dorms and onto the green for a good concert that topped off a week of busy Welcome Days events. Augustana has toured with artists such as Switchfoot, The Fray, Counting Crows, Dashboard Confessional, O.A.R., Snow Patrol, The Damnwells, Goo Goo Dolls, Acceptance, and Cartel as well as having their own headlining tours.

The band played some favorites from their second full-length album, All the Stars and Boulevards, including "Wastleland," the title track, and their smash-hit single, "Boston," much to the immense delight of the crowd. Before bringing their concert to a close, the band also performed their new and very catchy song "Sweet and Low," which is the first single from their newest album, "Can't Love, Can't Hurt," released in April. To end the concert, the band performed a charismatic interpretation of a famous Bob Dylan tune, and the crowd ate it up.

Augustana is sure to see even more successes with their new album, with their unique and versatile sound ranging from fast-paced and uplifting to deep and entrancing. And you'll get to say you saw them here first.
