Film students make teaching a pleasure

To the Editor:

Thank you for running the story last Friday regarding the new film minor. I wonder if I could take this opportunity to point out the two largest inaccuracies I found in the piece.

First, the piece claims that I "explained that many students come into these classes completely oblivious to any and all aspects of the film world." This does not resemble any statement I made or would ever make, because it has been my experience that Case students come to film classes full of wonderful insights and enthusiasm about the cinema, that they continually educate me in areas they know more about than I do, and that they have been a big reason why teaching film courses at Case has been such a pleasure.

Second, the piece states, "the film classes at Case fall under the English department." A more accurate statement is that the core of the minor consists of courses offered by, or cross-listed with, the English department.
