Cross Country moves up in national rankings

Women No. 14, men No. 35 in Division III

The Case Western Reserve University men’s and women’s cross country teams moved up in the latest national rankings of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll. The Spartans, who were idle from competition last week, both moved up in the rankings. The No. 14 women, who were fifteenth, moved up a spot, and the men cracked into the rankings at No. 35.

A young women’s roster has one meet championship and one third-place finish through the first several weeks of the season. The team won the 12th Annual Bill Sudeck Classic to open the fall then followed in third place at the 22-team Knight Invitational on Sept. 8 at Calvin College. The Spartans also sent non-scorers to the Behrend Invitational in Erie, Penn. on Sept. 15.

The Case men were idle from competition a week ago, but opened the 2012 season in second place at the 12th Annual Bill Sudeck Classic on Sept. 1. One week later, the team finished fifth out of 19 teams at the same Knight Invitational. Select non-scoring student-athletes also took part in the Behrend Invitational on Sept. 15.

The team returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 29 at the All-Ohio Championship hosted by Cedarville University at 2 p.m.
