Hitting the Spot: WRUW DJ Night

Next week UPB and The Spot will feature tunes spun by various DJs from CWRU’s very own campus and community radio station, WRUW FM 91.1 Cleveland. The first DJ is “The Spektron” of the WRUW program “The Spektrum”, who will be playing music of his selection for the first hour. The Spektrum features “indie and alternative, from then and now”, so music of that description can be expected of the audience. Following The Spektron, DJs Rachel H. and Helen of the program “Guilty Pleasures” will be pumping beats for everyone to get down to and enjoy. Finally Nate Kelly, the host of a program called “Who Runs Bartertown”, jokes that he will be playing music that, “nobody but me and maybe 5 other people are interested in hearing”. It seems like this Spot Night will be a great time to hang out and relax, dance with friends, or rock out, to either ease back into the fall schedule post-fall break, or to breathe for a minute after the dreadful time known as midterms week.

As always, Spot Night begins at 9pm Wednesday night. It is free of charge and offers delicious beverages and chicken wings at a discounted rate.

In Case You Missed It: Three spectacular local groups, known together as the Davenport Collective, played The Spot on Wednesday, Oct. 6. UPB hosted The Volta Sound who played some great ambient sounds, followed by The Dreadful Yawns, who gave a noisy and energetic set, with members exchanging instruments and roles along the way. To top it all off, The Afternoon Naps performed nothing short of their usual stunning set, a joyful batch of indie pop that kept the crowd dancing past midnight.
