Seven members of the Case Western Reserve University football team have been selected to the 2012 Division III All-Ohio Team. Leading the selections were first-team nods for senior offensive tackle Cullen Dolan, senior linebacker Ryan Ferguson, and senior safety Dan Calabrese.
In addition to the three first-team honorees, second team status went to senior defensive end Adam Watson, senior linebacker Wade Self, and junior guard Jake Abbott. Sophomore running back Manny Sicre completed the selections with third-team recognition.
Dolan, a senior captain, started all 10 games at right tackle and earned All-University Athletic Association honors for the second-straight season.
Ferguson, a two-time first-team All-UAA honoree, led the league in tackles (112) for the second-straight season and recorded an interception, a forced fumble, and six pass break-ups. Ferguson finished his career with 224 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and two interceptions.
Calabrese, also a two-time UAA Special Teams Player of the Year, recorded 53 tackles with a fumble recovery and a team high-tying eight pass break ups. Calabrese finished his career as a three-time All-UAA safety and a two-time OCF Division III All-Ohio honoree.
Watson was named the UAA Defensive Player of the Year with 59 tackles and team highs of 10 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and 5 blocked kicks. In his four seasons, Watson totaled 188 tackles, 33.5 TFL, 22 sacks, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and six blocked kicks.
Abbott joined Dolan in starting all 10 games on the offensive line. Abbott is also a two-time All-UAA pick.
Self, a team captain and two-time All-UAA honoree, racked up 84 tackles with six TFL, a forced fumble, and a blocked kick in 2012. For his career, Self totaled 193 tackles, 11 TFL, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
Sicre, OhioCollegeFootball.com’s Division III Rookie of the Year last season, led the team with 725 yards rushing on 191 carries with four TDs. Sicre also hauled in 26 receptions for 325 yards and two scores. The second-year Spartan is a two-time All-UAA honoree and now a two-time OCF All-Ohio pick.
The Spartans finished the season at 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the University Athletic Association. Over the last six seasons, Case Western Reserve football has produced an overall record of 54-10 with four UAA Championships (2007-09, ’11) and three NCAA Playoff berths (2007-09).
