TEDxCleveland event to be held in TVUC Nov. 20

TEDx is coming to Case Western Reserve University.

TED is a nonprofit organization that aims to spread ideas through short talks. Though there is an annual TED conference in Vancouver, Canada, there are also independent, local events called TEDx talks all over the world. These aim to allow smaller audiences to experience TED-like talks.

On November 20, a TEDx Salon, TEDx events focused on a specific topic, will be held in the Tinkham Veale University Center. This is the first Salon event to be held in Cleveland and will focus on the work of Albert Einstein, just in time for the 100th year anniversary of his Theory of Relativity.

The speakers, six of whom are professors or administrators at CWRU, are assistant professor of physics at CWRU Claudia de Rham, Executive Director and CEO of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History Evalyn Gates, Connecticut professor in physics and astronomy at CWRU John Ruhl, Associate Department Head of Physics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology Nergis Mavalvala, Albert Einstein Professor in Science and the Director of the Princeton Center for Theoretical Science at Princeton University Paul Steinhardt, professor in the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology at Durham University Ruth Gregory, Chair of the Department of Astronomy and Director of the Warner & Swasey Observatory at CWRU Stacy McGaugh and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and the Albert A. Michelson Professor in Physics at CWRU Cyrus Taylor.

Hallie Kogelschatz, the cofounder and curator of TEDxCLE, encourages students to attend the event.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to be inspired, connect with influential experts in the field and share their thinking on the future of these topics,” said Kogelschatz.
