Denial
You look at the calendar and suddenly it’s August. That can’t be possible, it was May last week. Convinced that the calendar on the wall, your phone and really every single place is wrong, you carry out your day manifesting oblivion.
Anger
Time doesn’t go away, and that stupid clock continues to tick. Time passes and it shouldn’t. You curse your old self who signed up for those extra three credits, then the professor for sending out the syllabus (though you probably need it). You wouldn’t even need a syllabus if school wasn’t starting again.
Bargaining
Maybe you have longer than you think! A few days? But that’s so many hours! You get to see your friends again, and spend time in the city of Cleveland. Classes? Who needs to worry about classes?
Depression
You need to worry about classes. Too much worry, too many classes. You’re reduced to a lump in your bed, a blanket burrito despite the heat. Maybe if you stay in there long enough the problem sets won’t find you.
Acceptance
With (somewhat) gathered resolve, you grab your backpack and dust off that energy drink. Maybe this is the year you won’t need that. Surely you’re older and wiser and better at time management. Procrastination? Who’s she?
