Escúchanos, or “Listen to Us,” is a collection of narratives from Latinx/Hispanic Case Western Reserve University students and alumni. Organized by La Alianza, Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) and the Latinx Alumni Association, this project is intended to recognize Hispanic Heritage Month by uplifting the voices of the Latinx community at CWRU. Participants will share their stories, their experiences at CWRU and ways that we can think beyond the possible to create a stronger community. We are partnering with The Observer in order to distribute this content to students, faculty and staff across campus.
Our goal is to celebrate the intersectionality of being a CWRU student and the lasting impact of being a Latinx student at this university. Hear the stories of those that walk beside you, the stories of those who came before you, the stories of members in our community. In producing this video series, we hope to bridge the gaps between individual student communities. In highlighting the voices of an underrepresented group, we hope to bring about a positive change in CWRU culture that would benefit all—now and in the future. In valuing all diverse identities, we strive for a stronger, more complete image of CWRU.
We invite you to watch these videos every week until the end of Hispanic Heritage Month, to engage in the Latinx student and alumni community and work towards building our university community. Join us in celebration of our culture and heritage throughout the month at our many events. And lastly, join us for Gala Latina: Nuestra Voz on Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. EST to continue this discussion and learn about the Latinx experience at CWRU.
